Job: Fire Sprinkler Design Technician   Posted:  11/04/09

• Read, interpret and apply technical design requirements of fire protection codes and standards (such as NFPA 13, 14, 20, 24, etc.), building codes , fire codes, insurer criteria, and other technical design documents.

• Read and interpret building construction documents such as drawings, specifications and other contract documents.

• Prepare f ire protection shop drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, and computer hydraulic calculations as needed for compliance with applicable fire protection codes, standards and contract documents.

• Prepare equipment stock lists and fabrication lists for fabrication of fire protection piping and hangers.

• Survey existing buildings for accurate, economical installation of fire protection systems.

• Coordinate activities with project manager.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job: Fire Protection Sprinkler System Designer   Posted:  02/19/09

Smith Automatic Sprinkler of South Windsor, CT is one of largest independently owned sprinkler contractors in the Northeast. We design, fabricate and install fire  protection systems. We are currently looking to fill an engineering position. Candidates with a NICET level III will be considered qualified for this position.

 JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure that the customers needs, and project specifications are met
• Ensure that project requirements are adequately and clearly defined
• Review, establish and maintain design control procedures
• Be the engineering technical interface between the engineering department / sales, project managers, accounting, fabrication, installation, vendors, owners, and authorities having jurisdiction
• Keep abreast of new products, technology and code requirements, transmit this information to staff and other departments

 JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of fire protection industry
• Ability to read and understand specifications and contract documents
• Ability to prepare professional documents
• Ability to perform, review and explain hydraulic calculations
• Computer skills – AutoCAD, spreadsheet analysis, word processing
• Deal competently with a number of tasks at one time
• To be prompt, courteous, and work cooperatively with co-workers, customers and vendors
• Travel as required

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 5 years in fire protection industry
• NICET Level III or higher
